SRINAGAR, Feb 4: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained five individuals for questioning regarding their suspected involvement in a scheme to smuggle SIM cards into the Central Jail for use by inmates.
Those detained hail from Dawoodpora Anantnag, Kursu Padshahi Bagh, Qamarwari Srinagar, Nathpora, Kaloosa, and Bandipora.
On Tuesday, police announced that in relation to case FIR No. 06/2023 under sections 153-A, 505, 121 & 120-B IPC along with 13 & 39 UA (P) Act registered at Police Station CI-K, the individuals were taken in for interrogation due to their alleged involvement in a conspiracy with anti-national elements aimed at obtaining, transporting, and smuggling SIM cards into the Central Jail for use by inmates, including those associated with terrorism and narco-terrorism.
Police had previously conducted searches within the Central Jail, which revealed that these individuals, in collusion with certain inmates, had procured and smuggled SIM cards for various terror-related activities.
Authorities are currently investigating the roles of Point of Sale (PoS) vendors and different Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) involved in issuing these SIM cards, with further arrests anticipated.
