NEW DELHI, Jan 16: On Thursday, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna administered the oath of office to K Vinod Chandran, the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, as a judge of the Supreme Court.
With Justice Chandran’s swearing-in, the total number of judges in the Supreme Court has increased to 33 out of a sanctioned strength of 34, which includes the Chief Justice.
On January 13, the Central Government approved the Supreme Court collegium’s recommendation to appoint Justice Chandran to the apex court.
The five-member collegium, headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, made the recommendation during a meeting on January 7. Justice Chandran has been serving as a judge of the Kerala High Court since November 8, 2011, and was appointed Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on March 29, 2023. (Agencies)
