MUMBAI, Dec 7: On the first day of a three-day special legislative session, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took the oath of office as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Saturday. Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar also swore in as assembly members.
The oath was administered by pro-tem speaker Kalidas Kolambkar at 11 am, following the commencement of House proceedings. The pro-tem speaker will oversee the oath-taking of the remaining 287 newly-elected MLAs.
The results of the Maharashtra assembly elections held on November 20 were announced on November 23, revealing a major victory for the Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which won 230 out of 288 seats.
The new government was inaugurated on December 5, with Fadnavis returning as chief minister, while Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar took their positions as deputy chief ministers. (PTI)
