A catastrophic fire on October 15 of last year ravaged multiple homes, displacing numerous families in the Warwan valley village.
“Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who took office on October 16, visited the affected area the next day and promised the victims assistance for long-term rehabilitation. He also committed to securing support from the Central government to help families rebuild their homes and lives,” stated an official spokesperson.
The approval for this special housing initiative comes after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s request for further financial aid from the Central government for the long-term support of the affected families, the spokesperson noted.
Emphasizing the urgency for housing aid through PMAY-G, the Chief Minister aims to facilitate the reconstruction of homes and assist families in returning to normal life.
In formal correspondence, the Ministry of Rural Development has communicated its endorsement to the secretary of the Rural Development Department of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, as per the spokesperson.
The communication indicates that up to 85 homes (seven of which are from previous PMAY-G beneficiaries) have been earmarked under this special project for the financial year 2024-25.
