Srinagar, Feb 25: On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conveyed his warm wishes to the Kashmiri Pandit community in celebration of Herath, which is the Kashmiri equivalent of Maha Shivaratri.
“Wishing everyone a joyous and blessed Herath! May this sacred festival bring peace, prosperity, and divine blessings to every home. Herath Mubarak!” Abdullah shared on his official X account.
Herath, celebrated on the 13th day of the dark fortnight of the month of Phalguna, typically falls between February and March. This festival is culturally significant and holds socio-religious meaning for the Kashmiri Pandits, who have continued its observance despite having migrated due to the rise of militancy in the region.
Also referred to as the night of Hara or Shiva, Herath is an important occasion.
Former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti also offered her greetings for the festival.
“Herath Mubarak to our Kashmiri Pandit brethren. May this occasion bring joy and happiness to all of you,” she posted on X.
