Srinagar, Feb 22: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted a public “darbar” in Ganderbal district on Saturday to connect with the community and tackle development-related issues in the region.
The meeting took place at Dak Bungalow in Ganderbal, where Abdullah personally engaged with various delegations and individuals from the district to discuss their daily concerns and development needs, according to an official spokesperson.
Abdullah, who serves as the representative for Ganderbal in the J-K legislative assembly, listened attentively to the public’s issues and requests, providing immediate instructions to relevant authorities for speedy resolution, the spokesperson reported.
He urged the district administration to prioritize addressing public grievances to ensure residents have access to essential services.
Reiterating his dedication to the welfare and socio-economic development of Ganderbal, Abdullah committed to ongoing support and prompt action on the matters raised by the citizens.
Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, along with senior district officials, was present to take note of the issues presented by the delegations, the spokesperson noted.
Numerous public groups and hundreds of residents from areas such as Beehama, Duderhama, Fatehpora, Shalabugh, Sehpora, Bamloora, Tulmulla, Barosa, Theeru, Gangerhama, Sherpathri, Lar, Safapora, Gutlibagh, and beyond shared their demands with the chief minister.
Among the primary requests were the establishment of fire service stations in strategic locations, the development of playgrounds, improvements to irrigation facilities, and the construction of a waiting area at the district hospital, according to the spokesperson.
Additional demands included road widening, the promotion of agriculture and horticulture, beautification efforts along the River Sindh, bank reinforcement from the Jhelum side, and dredging of Duderhama Nallah, the spokesperson added.
The public also asked for the creation of job opportunities within the district.
In response to these concerns, Abdullah directed the Deputy Commissioner and senior officials to ensure that all legitimate issues are addressed promptly.
He assured the community that their highlighted concerns would be thoroughly assessed and resolved within a set timeframe.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the 82-meter-long Akhal Bridge spanning the River Sind in the Kangan area of the central Kashmir district.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 8 crore by the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) Department, the bridge connects several villages in the Kunmul-Akhal and nearby areas, the spokesperson stated.
While addressing the public during the inauguration, the chief minister remarked that the Akhal Bridge is anticipated to greatly enhance transportation, boost economic activity in the region, and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents.
He expressed optimism that the bridge would serve as a crucial link, fostering development and providing significant relief to the local population.
Abdullah noted that the bridge resolves long-standing connectivity challenges in the area.
Local representatives and residents expressed their gratitude to the chief minister for fulfilling their longstanding demand, which will enhance convenience and accessibility, according to the spokesperson.
