SRINAGAR, Dec 14: Nighttime temperatures across Kashmir are continuing to fall, with all areas posting figures significantly below freezing, according to officials.
The cold wave affecting numerous locations is expected to persist for at least the next three days.
As reported by the meteorological center, Srinagar experienced an overnight minimum temperature of -4.6°C, which is -3.4°C lower than the average for this period.
The picturesque tourist spot Sonamarg, located in the Ganderbal district, recorded a frigid overnight temperature of -9.6°C, marking it as the coldest area in the region.
Meanwhile, the ski resort of Gulmarg saw temperatures drop to -7.6°C, which is -5°C below the seasonal norm.
Pahalgam, another scenic tourist destination in South Kashmir, reported a significant decrease with a minimum overnight temperature of -8.4°C.
The border district of Kupwara recorded -4.7°C, while Qazigund and Kokernag in southern Kashmir recorded temperatures of -5.6°C and -4.2°C, respectively.
Although the Jammu Division is generally warmer, it also reported noticeable drops in night temperatures. Jammu city registered 3.6°C, which is -5.2°C below the average, while Banihal recorded 4.9°C.
The Met department forecasts mainly dry and chilly weather in the days to come.
