SEOUL, Feb 25: Parts of an elevated highway that was under construction collapsed in South Korea on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of three workers and leaving six others injured, according to officials.
At the time, ten workers were present at the construction site located in Cheonan, approximately 90 kilometers (55 miles) south of Seoul. They fell when the structure collapsed and became trapped in the debris, reported the National Fire Agency.
One worker was discovered deceased in the rubble. Eight injured individuals were taken to hospitals, where two were later pronounced dead, fire agency officials indicated.
The agency stated that five workers remain in serious condition and rescue operations are ongoing to locate the missing worker.
The reasons behind the collapse are not yet clear.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok has called for the mobilization of all available personnel and resources to assist in the recovery of the workers. (AP)
