RAIPUR, December 24: Numerous Congress party members were detained during a foot march to the residence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, where they accused Union Minister Amit Shah of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, according to police reports on Tuesday.
The protest, organized by opposition Congress and its youth wing, began from Gandhi Maidan in Raipur on Monday afternoon. As they approached the Chief Minister’s residence, many protesters were apprehended but released later in the evening, a police official confirmed.
The Congress members attempted to surround Chief Minister Sai’s house to protest against Amit Shah’s recent remarks about B.R. Ambedkar made in Parliament.
To manage the situation, heavy police presence was established near the CM’s residence, and water cannons were utilized to disperse the crowd, as reported by a party functionary.
In a statement to reporters, Indian Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib, who led the march, demanded Amit Shah’s resignation, saying, “His mockery of Babasaheb Ambedkar in Parliament is unacceptable, and he should apologize to the entire nation.”
Chhattisgarh Congress President Deepak Baij and State Youth Congress President Akash Sharma also participated in the march.
The Congress leaders highlighted various issues affecting the state, including law and order, drug-related concerns, high power tariffs, and unemployment.
Previously, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Baij addressed a gathering of party activists outside the Raipur Municipal Corporation, with Baij expressing alarm over the state’s law and order, referencing a recent shooting incident near the Central Jail in Raipur.
Additionally, he criticized the BJP government, asserting that women’s safety in the state was deteriorating. (Agencies)
