JAMMU, Feb 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) organized a protest march on Friday in response to the United States’ alleged cruel treatment of over 100 Indians deported during the Donald Trump administration.
The march, led by JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, saw numerous activists and leaders taking to the streets, voicing their discontent towards both the Trump administration and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
Protesters gathered at Janipur to express their anger against the US government for treating Indian workers, who were in the US in search of jobs, like criminals and terrorists.
With banners depicting US President Trump alongside Prime Minister Modi, the protesters criticized the government’s lack of response and action concerning the mistreatment of Indian nationals. They chanted fervent slogans against both the US and the Modi administration.
Sharma condemned what he called “the greatest insult, torture, and inhumane treatment” imposed by the Trump administration, asserting that the nation felt shocked, insulted, and wounded by the treatment of Indian citizens.
He accused the US of infringing on human rights and referred to Trump—sarcastically termed as Modi’s “so-called friend”—as responsible for one of the most grievous human rights violations against peaceful and innocent Indians.
“Where is Modi’s Namaste Trump and his so-called 56-inch chest when Indians were tortured, flown back in handcuffs and had their legs tied with chains? A smaller nation like Colombia managed to bring back its citizens using its own aircraft—why this humiliation for our country and fellow citizens? Why is Prime Minister Modi remaining silent, a mere spectator, in such a serious matter?” Sharma questioned.
He denounced the scenario as a profound insult to the nation, arguing that the US government demeaned Indian citizens while the Modi administration appeared indifferent and mute.
“These innocent individuals sought jobs in the US due to the Modi government’s failure to deliver on its pledge of generating two crore jobs each year for the youth,” he emphasized.
The Congress leader further stated that the Modi government’s inaction and silence have caused hurt to every Indian, leading to widespread protests to articulate strong discontent.
The protesters subsequently marched towards New Plot, causing disruptions to normal traffic and intensifying their demonstration. (Agencies)
