Jammu, Feb 17: Tariq Hameed Karra, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), criticized the BJP on Monday for undermining the public mandate by managing the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir through proxies, despite having formed a popular government last year.
Speaking at a party convention in Ramban, which is part of a 15-day campaign aimed at restoring statehood and upholding constitutional values, Karra expressed concerns about the BJP’s procrastination in fulfilling its pledge to reinstate statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted that the BJP had made promises on the floor of Parliament, in Supreme Court proceedings, and through public declarations regarding the prompt restoration of statehood.
The delay, even after more than four months since the elected government took office, disrespects not only the Constitution and the Supreme Court but also the will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress leader remarked.
He emphasized that citizens had voted for the NC-Congress coalition with high hopes of alleviating their struggles under bureaucratic rule, but lamented that “unfortunately, the BJP does not delegate full powers to the elected government to fulfill its promises”.
