KOZHIKODE (KERALA), Nov 30: During her two-day visit to Kerala following her first electoral victory in the Wayanad constituency, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra remarked on Saturday that the BJP operates without adhering to any rules or democratic principles in its political endeavors.
Drawing a parallel between the BJP’s tactics and the landslides that devastated Wayanad in July, Priyanka argued that, similar to the natural disaster, the BJP’s actions are devoid of rules, rational explanations, or respect for the democratic norms typically observed in political contests.
“The political challenges we currently face from the BJP resemble landslides—there are no rules and no explanations,” she stated.
While addressing a joint public meeting alongside her brother Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, at Mukkam, she emphasized that the ruling party at the Centre, the BJP, disregards democratic standards, even those usually respected during political conflicts.
Priyanka further accused the BJP of undermining institutions, eroding people’s faith in the electoral process, and dismantling the very frameworks that unify the country. During a reception in Karulai, in the Malappuram district’s Nilambur assembly constituency, she reiterated the need to combat the BJP, which she described as lacking rules and respect for democracy and the Constitution.
“Their agenda is negative and destructive,” she asserted.
She noted that the Parliament has been stagnant for a week because the BJP fears discussing particular issues that the Congress-led opposition wishes to address.
“We are facing a significant battle in Parliament and throughout India. It is our duty to protect our Constitution,” she declared.
She also called for a judiciary that is fair, balanced, and free from pressure. Priyanka assured the people of Wayanad LS constituency that she will advocate for their voices and address their concerns in Parliament.
“I will represent your voices, work to resolve your issues, and uphold your values and aspirations every day until the end of my tenure,” she promised.
Additionally, she expressed her commitment to improving the future for Wayanad’s residents, listing her mission to tackle problems such as human-animal conflicts, night travel restrictions, enhancing health and education services, and boosting tourism.
Expressing her gratitude, Priyanka thanked the people of Wayanad for their continued support and for electing her to represent them.
“Thank you very much. I will not let you down. I am committed to working hard for you. I’m confident you will be proud of your MP,” she assured.
Earlier in the day, upon arriving at Karipur airport, Priyanka expressed her excitement to return and eagerness to begin working for Wayanad’s community.
The Wayanad constituency encompasses seven assembly segments: Mananthavady (ST), Sulthan Bathery (ST), and Kalpetta in Wayanad district; Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district; and Eranad, Nilambur, and Wandoor in Malappuram district.
Priyanka achieved her first electoral victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll with an impressive margin of 410,931 votes, surpassing her brother Rahul’s lead when he won the seat during the recent general elections. (PTI)
