JAMMU, Dec 24: Sunil Sharma, the Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, asserted that Congress must issue an unconditional apology to the nation for the disrespect directed towards Babasaheb Ambedkar by its leaders, including Pandit Nehru. He made these remarks during a press conference held at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar today.
Sunil Sharma, accompanied by Shakti Raj Parihar, MLA and vice-president of J&K BJP, along with Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, MLA and general secretary of J&K BJP, and Balbir Ram Rattan, former VC, and Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, media secretary of J&K BJP, emphasized that when a Minister resigns from the Council, they are typically permitted to address the House. In contrast, after Dr. Ambedkar’s resignation, he was denied this opportunity. In his resignation letter, Babasaheb Ambedkar voiced significant criticism towards then PM Jawahar Lal Nehru, which is why the Congress has kept his resignation letter from the public.
Sharma noted that the Congress party has persistently disrespected and humiliated Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
He pointed out that the Congress never awarded Dr. Ambedkar the Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan, or Padma Shri, yet honored Narayan Sadooba Kajrolkar, who defeated Babasaheb in an election, with the Padma Bhushan. Furthermore, Pt Nehru actively campaigned for Kajrolkar, revealing the Congress party’s true character, he argued.
Regarding the recent incident involving Rahul Gandhi, Sharma stated that the Opposition leader in Lok Sabha resorted to aggressive behavior, leading to injuries among MPs that required hospitalization. This incident reflects the Congress party’s tendency to engage in physical actions after failing in reasoned discourse.
During BJP Chief Minister Sundar Lal Patwa’s administration in Madhya Pradesh, a memorial was established at Babasaheb’s birthplace. Former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar approved land for the Ambedkar Center in Delhi, but Congress hindered its construction. It was completed only under Narendra Modi’s government, which also erected a memorial in London where Babasaheb lived, established a memorial at his residence in Delhi, and developed memorials at Deeksha Bhoomi in Nagpur and Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai.
Sharma highlighted a letter from Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru to Edwina Mountbatten, expressing relief at Babasaheb Ambedkar no longer being part of the Cabinet. He condemned the Congress party’s current claims of honoring Babasaheb as utterly shameful and insisted they must stop this hypocrisy.
