Jammu, Dec 24: The Congress organized an Ambedkar Samman March in Jammu city on Tuesday in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments regarding the chief architect of the Constitution, demanding an apology for his remarks.
This march is part of a larger, nationwide protest calling for accountability from the home minister.
The Congress initiated a weeklong campaign against Shah, accusing him of disrespecting Ambedkar during a debate about the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha last week.
The rally, led by the Congress’ Jammu and Kashmir working president, Raman Bhalla, saw numerous party workers, former ministers, ex-legislators, and senior leaders march from Ambedkar Chowk.
Chants against the BJP and Shah, along with praises for Ambedkar, filled the air at the rally, which concluded at the divisional commissioner’s office.
Congress representatives delivered a memorandum seeking recognition and respect for Ambedkar.
“The movement has now shifted from the ‘Sansad’ to the ‘sadak’. We will persist with these marches to ensure justice for the architect of the Constitution. We will not put up with any insult directed at Ambedkar,” Bhalla stated to reporters.
He reiterated the Congress’ demand for Shah’s resignation and a public apology for his comments.
