BELAGAVI (KARNATAKA), Dec 26: K C Venugopal, the AICC general secretary organization, stated on Thursday that the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting will address the recent political developments in India, including the BJP’s purported attacks on both the Constitution and its key architect, B R Ambedkar.
He mentioned that the Congress will formulate “clear-cut” strategies to tackle various national issues after thorough discussions, especially in response to the BJP’s alleged constitutional violations.
The extended CWC meeting is taking place in Belagavi on Thursday, alongside a public gathering scheduled for December 27, marking the centenary of the 1924 session of the Indian National Congress, which was chaired by Mahatma Gandhi. “Today marks the hundredth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership in the Indian National Congress, a moment of pride for all Congress members nationwide,” Venugopal stated.
In statements to reporters, he emphasized that the country currently faces numerous challenges, which the extended CWC will address with “clear cut” solutions. “… The BJP has attacked the Constitution and has also targeted Babasaheb Ambedkar vehemently, particularly by Amit Shah (Union Home Minister).
These matters will be discussed in the working committee…,” he added. The 39th session of the Indian National Congress, held in Belagavi in 1924, remains significant as it was the only session overseen by Mahatma Gandhi.
To mark the occasion, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be unveiled on December 27 at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha by Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, and Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. (Agencies)
