New Delhi, Mar 6: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized on Thursday the importance of establishing a society where individuals are not discriminated against based on gender, caste, or religion.
He made these comments during a ceremony awarding the “Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar Mahila Samman” to women who are making significant contributions, in anticipation of International Women’s Day on March 8.
“Our goal should be to create a society that evaluates individuals on their skills and contributions rather than their caste, gender, religion, or social standing,” Gadkari stated.
The awards are presented by the Mumbai-based Kamala Ankibai Ghamandiram Gowani Trust.
He remarked on the transformation in society, asserting that women should no longer feel restricted by their gender.
“In areas where merit is recognized, women are leading the charge, with 75 percent of top achievers being female,” he noted.
Union Minister for Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, discussed the strides made in women’s empowerment in Haryana over the years.
Recalling his time as Chief Minister, he mentioned the deep-seated societal norms regarding women in the state.
Khattar highlighted the significant impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative in Haryana.
During his leadership, he noted the establishment of 30 women-centric police stations across the state, all managed by female officers, to provide a comfortable environment for women to voice their concerns. (PTI)
