JAUNPUR (UP), Jan 20: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is set to marry Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Priya Saroj, as confirmed by her family.
Tufani Saroj, Priya’s father and the SP MLA from Kerakat, informed PTI that meaningful discussions between Singh’s father and their family took place in Aligarh on February 16 regarding the union of their children, leading to an agreement on the matrimonial alliance.
He mentioned that no engagement ceremony or pre-wedding events have taken place yet.
Tufani Saroj, a three-time MP, shared that his daughter and Singh became acquainted through a mutual friend whose father is also a cricketer.
“Rinku and Priya have been familiar with each other for over a year now. While they both developed feelings for one another, family approval was necessary. Both families are now on board with the marriage,” he elaborated.
Details regarding the engagement and wedding will be finalized after the Parliament session, with the engagement set to occur in Lucknow.
Singh will depart for England for a T20 series starting January 22 and is also anticipated to participate in the IPL afterward. Precautions will be taken to ensure that the wedding festivities do not interfere with his career, he added.
Sources indicated that the two families convened at Singh’s residence in Ozone City, Aligarh, where they formalized the marriage by exchanging ‘shagun’ and gifts.
Priya Saroj hails from Karkhiyaon village in Varanasi. She has been actively engaged with the SP for several years and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Machhlishahr constituency in the Jaunpur district the previous year at just 25 years of age.
A former Supreme Court lawyer, Priya first gained public attention while campaigning for her father during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in arts from Delhi University and a law degree from Amity University, Noida. (Agencies)
