JAMMU, Dec 7: Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Atal Dulloo, visited the Jagti Migrant Camp on Saturday to review the available amenities and discuss the concerns of the Kashmiri Pandit residents.

Accompanied by the Principal Secretary of the Home and Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Departments, the Chief Secretary was also joined by the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, the JMC Commissioner, the SSP of Jammu, the Relief Commissioner, the Director of School Education Jammu, the Director of Health Services Jammu, the Chief Engineer of Jal Shakti, and other relevant officials.
During the visit, he inspected the Sub-District Hospital and the Higher Secondary School within the camp, assessing the services available to the community.
He directed hospital officials to commence general anaesthesia (GA) surgeries immediately and urged for enhancements in public services to better serve local residents and reduce referrals from the facility.
While reviewing the Government Higher Secondary School, he evaluated staffing levels and subject offerings, calling for improved maintenance of the premises and an adequate number of teachers.
At the public grievances camp, he reiterated the government’s commitment to providing essential amenities for the migrants, ensuring that legitimate concerns voiced would be addressed promptly.
He encouraged attendees to register under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) to access various social security programs and schemes being offered.
To foster self-employment opportunities for the youth, he announced upcoming camps in conjunction with local banks.
He emphasized that with the digitization of migrants’ credentials, more benefits under different Government of India schemes would become accessible to them.
The Chief Secretary also mentioned that eligible migrants would be included in the PM-KISAN scheme and other relevant programs.
He reassured the migrants that their challenges had the government’s attention, and the Relief Commissioner would advocate on their behalf for timely resolutions.
In his address, Principal Secretary of the DMRR&R Department, Chandraker Bharti, encouraged the attendees not to feel marginalized, as they are like other citizens of the country facing unique challenges.
He noted that departments like Jal Shakti and JMC have been tasked with enhancing water supply and sanitation services.
He underscored a continuous commitment from the Department to improve and modernize services for migrants in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, Relief Commissioner Arvind Karwani provided context regarding the establishment of the Jagti township and the services available to its residents.
He mentioned that 4,224 flats have been constructed for 5,131 families, alongside 53 parks and 10 community halls for residents’ use.
He also announced plans for a new two-story community hall, budgeted at approximately Rs 6.34 Crore, and highlighted the necessity for renovation and repairs of the residential flats, with work expected to commence soon.
