New Delhi, Mar 1: A court in the capital has permitted the Delhi Police to drop charges against former JNUSU vice president Shehla Rashid Shora regarding her tweets pertaining to the Army, as reported by police sources.
On February 27, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh issued the order in response to a request from the prosecution, which stated that Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had rescinded his approval to prosecute Shora.
The application noted that this decision was made following the recommendations of a Screening Committee.
“The Lt. Governor of Delhi has endorsed the Screening Committee’s recommendation…,” the application indicated.
This approval was granted on December 23, 2024.
Shora, who previously led the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU), faced accusations of inciting animosity among various groups and engaging in actions detrimental to communal harmony through her tweets.
Her tweets, dated August 18, 2019, allegedly claimed that the Army had invaded homes and “tortured” residents in Kashmir.
These claims were dismissed by the Army as unfounded. (Agencies)
