NEW DELHI, Feb 20: Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta from Delhi promised on Thursday that the BJP government would honor its election commitment to provide Rs 2,500 in monthly financial support to women.
She stated that the initial installment of this financial aid would be transferred to their accounts by March 8.
In its election manifesto, the BJP sought to surpass the Aam Aadmi Party’s pledge of Rs 2,100 monthly support should they win.
Elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party on Wednesday, Gupta made it clear that fulfilling these commitments is her utmost priority.
“It is the duty of all 48 BJP MLAs in the capital to realize the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We will surely deliver on all of our promises, including the financial assistance for women. Women will absolutely receive the monetary support credited to their accounts by March 8,” she affirmed, noting that this date coincides with International Women’s Day.
The BJP achieved a significant victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, clinching 48 out of 70 seats and bringing an end to the AAP’s decade-long governance.
Gupta, who has previously served as the president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and as a municipal councilor, is set to be inaugurated as Delhi’s fourth female Chief Minister during a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan later today, with Prime Minister Modi and other dignitaries in attendance.
