RAIPUR, Jan 21: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized on Tuesday that “demographic disruption” poses a significant threat to nationalism and urged for collective action to combat efforts aimed at altering the “organic demography” through allurements and temptations.
During a discussion with students on the theme “Ideas for Building a Better Bharat,” he highlighted the urgency of addressing illegal migration, which he described as having reached “unmanageable dimensions.”
The interaction took place at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium and included participants from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai.
“We face a serious issue that requires our unified attention. Our nationalism is threatened by demographic disruptions. This issue is incredibly serious,” he stated.
“Organic demographic evolution is healthy and harmonious. However, a demographic explosion that threatens to destabilize democracy raises concerns, particularly when conversions are orchestrated through temptations. While individuals have the right to make personal choices, if those choices are influenced by allurements aimed at transforming the nation’s organic demography, this demands our attention,” he continued.
He further addressed the pressing issue of illegal migration and its implications for the country.
“We are grappling with millions of illegal migrants. The scale is staggering. This problem has escalated without sufficient resistance, and we must confront it as it has grown unmanageable,” he remarked.
He noted that millions of illegal migrants could disrupt the electoral system, finding support among those focused on narrow political interests. “We must prioritize national interests. Illegal migration is unjustifiable, particularly given its economic ramifications,” he added.
“These illegal migrants strain our resources, employment, healthcare, and education systems. We can no longer delay finding a resolution to the substantial problem posed by millions of illegal migrants. Each day we postpone addressing this issue adds complexity to the situation,” he concluded.
Vice President Dhankhar also responded to students’ questions during the session.
Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended the event.
