Chandigarh, January 8: Early Wednesday morning, dense fog was reported in various locations across Punjab and Haryana, with ongoing cold weather affecting both states.
In Punjab, officials noted that fog reduced visibility to zero in Amritsar.
Ludhiana and Patiala experienced visibility of only 20 meters and 10 meters, respectively, according to meteorological observations.
Chandigarh, the shared capital of both states, saw visibility at 80 meters.
Fog was also present in Karnal and Ambala in Haryana.
Sangrur was recorded as the coldest area in Punjab, with the minimum temperature dipping to 3 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees below normal, according to the Met office.
Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana saw 6.8 degrees and Patiala 7.4 degrees.
Pathankot’s minimum temperature was noted at 8.6 degrees Celsius, Bathinda at 4.5 degrees, and Gurdaspur at 4.0 degrees.
In Haryana, Hisar registered a nighttime temperature of 6.4 degrees Celsius, Ambala 9.3 degrees, Karnal 7.5 degrees, Narnaul 5.0 degrees, Rohtak 7.7 degrees, Bhiwani 5.0 degrees, and Sirsa 6.0 degrees.
Chandigarh recorded a low of 8.3 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees below normal. (PTI)
