KATHUA, Feb 1: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, today embarked on an impromptu tour of Kathua, engaging with community members, stakeholders, and officials to evaluate issues regarding land acquisition for industrial growth under SIDCO in Barwal.

The Deputy Chief Minister reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to balanced and sustainable development, ensuring the integration of local interests, environmental health, and industrial advancement.
Addressing the concerns of affected residents and industry stakeholders, the Deputy Chief Minister guaranteed that the Government is adopting a careful and inclusive strategy in establishing industrial areas, ensuring that the benefits accrue to all stakeholders, particularly local communities. He pointed out that while industrialization is vital for economic development and job creation, it must be pursued responsibly, considering environmental sustainability and community welfare.
“The Government is fully cognizant of the public’s concerns regarding land acquisition and its consequences for their livelihoods. Our commitment is to ensure that no one faces unfair repercussions from these development initiatives. Industrial expansion should align with environmental stewardship and social accountability. We will guarantee that those impacted by land acquisition receive proper compensation and rehabilitation measures,” maintained the Dy CM.
While visiting, the Deputy Chief Minister also addressed the recent, large-scale removal of over 250 trees in the Barwal area, which occurred as part of the land acquisition for SIDCO. Recognizing the public uproar over this event, he committed to a thorough investigation to ascertain who permitted the tree removal and if the proper protocols were adhered to.
In addition to concerns regarding industrial development, the Deputy Chief Minister tackled the increasing challenges posed by drug trafficking, illegal mining, and industrial malpractices in the region. He expressed that these issues threaten the socio-economic foundation of the area and warned that the Government would take stringent and decisive measures against any individuals or groups engaged in such activities. He encouraged the public to collaborate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities related to illegal trade and organized crime.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured the public that the Government is crafting a comprehensive plan to promote sustainable industrial growth without compromising local needs and environmental considerations. He emphasized that each development project will undergo rigorous evaluation to safeguard the region’s natural resources, heritage, and socio-economic structure.
