Dehradun, Jan 7: On Tuesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Delhi to request funding for the creation of a high-altitude sports center and a multipurpose sports hall in every development block of Uttarakhand, according to an official statement.
Dhami also updated Mandaviya on the efforts underway in Uttarakhand for the approaching National Games.
More than 10,000 athletes from all over India are set to participate in the event scheduled from January 28 to February 14. The state is developing sports infrastructure to ensure world-class facilities for the players, Dhami informed Mandaviya.
He stated that hosting the National Games will foster a sports culture in Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister urged Mandaviya to sanction the necessary funds for building a high-altitude sports center at Dinapani in Almora district and for constructing a multipurpose sports hall in each development block to facilitate advanced training for athletes.
Additionally, Dhami requested the Centre to approve a previous proposal for establishing an ice skating rink on the Maharana Pratap Sports College campus and to provide funds for upgrading the Adventure Training Centre located in Shivpuri, Tehri district.
He also requested financial support for constructing an indoor artificial rock climbing wall at the Women’s Sports College in Champawat district, the statement elaborated.
In response, Mandaviya assured that the Centre would extend all possible support for the enhancement of sports infrastructure in Uttarakhand. (PTI)
