NEW DELHI, Jan 15: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court requested responses from both the Centre and the election commission regarding a petition filed by Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh. This petition challenges the recent amendments made to the 1961 Conduct of Election Rules, which limit public access to CCTV footage and various election-related documents.
A bench, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, acknowledged the arguments presented by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi on behalf of Ramesh, and subsequently issued notices regarding the petition.
The bench indicated that it will hear the petition during the week beginning March 17. (Agencies)
