WASHINGTON, Feb 27: The administration under Trump has announced the cessation of over 90% of foreign aid contracts associated with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and a reduction of $60 billion in total US assistance globally, as stated in an internal memo acquired by The Associated Press.
This change is a result of a 90-day assessment initiated by President Donald Trump regarding all financial aid provided by USAID and the State Department for international development and aid efforts.
The decision leaves minimal USAID projects for advocates to attempt to preserve amidst ongoing legal disputes. The plans outlined by the Trump administration were detailed in both the memo and court documentation released on Wednesday.
The Washington Free Beacon was the first outlet to report on these budget cuts. (AP)
