SHIMLA, Jan 17: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh delivered a compelling speech in Shimla, highlighting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) steadfast dedication to the constitutional values established by Ambedkar and the reinforcement of its democratic ethos.
Addressing an event hosted by the Himachal Pradesh State BJP, Dr. Jitendra Singh spoke before notable leaders, including LoP and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, State BJP chief Dr. Rajiv Bindal, Rajya Sabha MP Sikander Kumar, and party workers. He elaborated on the BJP’s historical role in preserving constitutional integrity while countering claims of constitutional abuse.
Dr. Jitendra Singh began by criticizing the historical disregard for constitutional values by previous administrations under Congress leadership. He cited specific instances where the Constitution was altered for political gain, particularly during the Emergency in 1975, when the 42nd Amendment was utilized to consolidate power and suppress dissent. He stated, “The Congress Party misused constitutional provisions 88 times to dissolve state governments under Article 356, which is meant for extraordinary situations.”
In contrast, Dr. Jitendra Singh discussed the BJP’s efforts to honor national icons and maintain their legacies.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made sure that figures like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who were historically overlooked, receive the recognition they rightfully deserve. The Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, symbolizes Sardar Patel’s vision. Likewise, the Modi government has established memorials at significant locations related to Dr. Ambedkar’s life to motivate future generations,” he remarked.
He also highlighted the BJP’s legislative successes, including reforms aimed at empowering disadvantaged communities and promoting inclusivity. He referred to the abrogation of triple talaq as a pivotal move toward gender equality and noted the modernization of India’s criminal code as essential for ensuring fair treatment for all citizens. “Unlike past governments, the BJP has never manipulated constitutional amendments for political advantage. Our priority is justice and nation-building,” he affirmed.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the cultural and historical connections between regions such as Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, recognizing their shared values and contributions to the country. He praised the unity and commitment of party workers in these areas, encouraging them to persist in their efforts for societal improvement and the preservation of democratic values.
The Minister addressed the misleading narratives often directed at the BJP, asserting that the party’s actions have always been aligned with national interests. “Detractors frequently claim that the BJP undermines the Constitution, but in reality, our government has reinstated respect for national icons and supported reforms that embody the essence of democracy,” he stated.
He concluded his speech with a call to action, urging political leaders and citizens to protect India’s democratic framework. “The Constitution is more than just a document; it represents a legacy of our collective values and aspirations. We must ensure that it continues to lead us toward a united and progressive India,” he urged.
