NEW DELHI, Jan 19 : Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, and Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, has inaugurated India’s first-of-its-kind CSIR Mega “Innovation Complex” in Mumbai, dedicating it to StartUps and industry stakeholders.
This state-of-the-art Innovation Complex in Mumbai, inaugurated by the Minister of Science & Technology, encompasses nine floors and features 24 fully-equipped incubation labs, along with office and networking spaces tailored for innovative StartUps, MSMEs, industry players, and CSIR labs. This Mega facility aims to deliver high-end scientific infrastructure, expertise, and regulatory support for stakeholders, including CSIR labs, StartUps, MSMEs, and industry, facilitating SOP-driven studies essential for regulatory compliance and submissions.
The Complex comprises ready-to-move, world-class incubation labs and offers IP/business development assistance to innovative start-ups, firms collaborating with CSIR labs, MSMEs, and deep-tech companies, both domestically and internationally, as well as public research institutions and CSIR labs.”
Engaging with the audience’s enthusiasm, Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed, “This inauguration marks merely the beginning. We are thrilled about the future possibilities and the substantial impact this Innovation Complex will have on India’s growth narrative.”
The Minister acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership, which has positioned India as a global epicenter for StartUps and innovation. He characterized the inauguration of this complex as a significant milestone fueled by Prime Minister Modi’s guidance.
Dr. Jitendra Singh stated, “We take pride in being home to the world’s third-largest start-up ecosystem, boasting over 100 Unicorns that exemplify India’s entrepreneurial zeal. This impressive expansion reflects the transformative initiatives and policies enacted by our government to empower the youth and enhance economic self-sufficiency.”
The Science and Technology Minister emphasized that the CSIR Innovation Complex in Mumbai emerges at a crucial juncture in India’s start-up landscape.
He explained that this cutting-edge facility is constructed to provide incubation and business spaces, promoting collaboration among start-ups, MSMEs, and industry stakeholders with CSIR’s network of researchers and innovators. It serves as a conduit between advanced science and its application to real-world issues, thus contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
He described the Innovation Complex as a key milestone for CSIR, symbolizing a significant advancement in India’s innovation ecosystem and reinforcing the nation’s stature as a global frontrunner in science and technology. Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the sophisticated scientific infrastructure and expertise designed to meet critical unresolved needs (spanning lab regulatory and regulatory industry domains), facilitating quicker tech transfer processes for start-ups, MSMEs, and CSIR labs.
Dr. Jitendra Singh noted that the IC-Mumbai would be equipped to provide high-end scientific infrastructure, expertise, and regulatory support vital for stakeholders (CSIR labs, start-ups, MSMEs, and industry) engaged in SOP-driven regulatory studies and compliance.
He further added, “The facility offers ready-to-move, top-notch incubation labs and IP/business development support for innovative start-ups, companies collaborating with CSIR labs, MSMEs, deep-tech firms from both India and abroad, funded research organizations, and CSIR labs.”
Addressing industry members and start-ups, Dr. Jitendra Singh indicated that the complex will serve as an innovation and incubation hub intended to support, collaborate, and partner within key sectors such as healthcare (pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, medtech), chemicals, materials, energy, and various other fields of interest to CSIR labs.
Discussing the physical features of IC-Mumbai, Dr. Jitendra Singh detailed that the facility spans nine floors and is equipped with 24 “ready-to-move” incubation labs alongside comprehensive office and networking spaces for dynamic start-ups, MSMEs, industries, and CSIR labs.
In closing, Dr. Jitendra Singh asserted, “This inauguration is just the beginning. We eagerly anticipate the future opportunities and the significant contributions this Innovation Complex will offer to India’s growth narrative.” He concluded that similar facilities like the C-ICM embody the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity central to the nation’s commitment to fostering a self-reliant India.
The event was attended by notable figures including Dr. V.K. Saraswat and Dr. V.K. Paul, Members of NITI Aayog; Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary of DSIR and DG of CSIR; and Dr. Ram Vishwakarma. The inaugural ceremony witnessed participation from industry leaders, foreign delegates from Norway, Switzerland, and Germany, MSMEs, start-ups, and over 1,000 scientists from CSIR labs across India.
