HIRANAGAR, Jan 11: During a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the abrogation of Article 370, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology; Earth Sciences, and Minister of State for PMO, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the significance of the Hiranagar martyrs’ sacrifice as a key moment in the ongoing integration of J&K with India.
At the Martyrdom Day ceremony, he praised their bravery and dedication, noting that their legacy continues to motivate future generations.
Dr. Singh remarked that the struggle for the abrogation of Article 370 was marked by notable sacrifices that continue to resonate. He revisited the historic efforts led by Praja Parishad, under Prem Nath Dogra, who later became the National President of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and was a close ally of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
“While we can never fully repay the debt owed to their sacrifices, their bravery has paved the way for future generations to persist until constitutional justice was achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance,” he remarked. He noted that the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5-6, 2019, represented the culmination of a long battle and fulfilled Mookerjee’s vision of “One Nation, One Constitution.”
The Union Minister elaborated on the significant reforms undertaken after 2019 that addressed longstanding injustices. He underscored the incorporation of a 4% reservation benefit for residents of International Border areas in Jammu, ensuring they have the same advantages as those living along the Line of Control (LoC).
“For years, these communities were neglected due to the apathy of previous governments. The Modi administration has guaranteed that all border inhabitants, including those in Pakistan, receive equal treatment and their due entitlements,” he asserted.
Additionally, the Minister discussed advancements in infrastructure and provisions for border residents, mentioning the establishment of bunkers for protection against cross-border firing, enhanced roads, and improved sanitation facilities. “The government’s initiatives have vastly upgraded the living conditions of those who have endured border conflicts for years,” Singh stated.
He stressed that the repeal of Article 370 has ushered in a new era of development in Jammu & Kashmir. He pointed out the establishment of new medical colleges, industrial biotech parks, and significant infrastructure projects as indicators of the region’s progress. “These initiatives reflect not just economic improvement; they signify Jammu & Kashmir’s integration into India’s broader development narrative,” he observed.
Regarding the ambitious Arun Jaitley Stadium project in Hiranagar, Dr. Jitendra Singh noted that, despite past delays, discussions are underway with the new Chief Minister’s office, expressing optimism for a swift resolution.
The Martyrdom Day event, held annually to honor the sacrifices made for their cause, was observed with equal zeal this year. Dr. Jitendra Singh commended various organizations and individuals for preserving the memory of the martyrs. He stated, “Their sacrifices laid the groundwork for the present-day Jammu & Kashmir. It is our duty to celebrate their legacy by contributing to the nation’s advancement.”
Former Minister Sat Sharma, prominent leader Thakur Ranjit Singh, MLAs Vijay Sharma, Dr. Manyal, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, among others, attended the event.
