CHANDIGARH, Dec 7: A groom who returned from Dubai, along with his entourage of 150 guests, was left stunned upon arriving in Moga, Punjab, only to discover that his bride was “missing” and that the wedding venue was nonexistent.
Deepak Kumar (24), who had just returned to Jalandhar from Dubai a month earlier to marry Manpreet Kaur, with whom he had communicated via Instagram for three years without meeting in person, as stated by the police.
Following the incident, the groom filed a complaint against the bride, they reported.
The police revealed that the two had been connected on Instagram for three years but had never met face-to-face.
Deepak mentioned that he and his family traveled from Mandiali village in Jalandhar to Moga for the wedding at the venue specified by the bride.
Upon arrival in Moga, the bride’s family claimed that someone would escort him and his family to the venue. However, despite waiting until 5 pm, no one arrived, he reported.
He stated that when they inquired with locals about the ‘Rose Garden palace’ venue, they were informed that no such place existed in Moga.
The groom, who worked as a laborer in Dubai, had been in contact with Kaur through Instagram for three years, seeing her photos but never having met her.
Their families had arranged the wedding through phone conversations, with officials noting that Deepak also claimed he had previously transferred Rs 50,000 to her.
Deepak’s father, Prem Chand, remarked that he brought 150 guests for the wedding and had already secured taxis, catering, and a videographer.
Kaur, who is originally from Moga, had claimed to work in Ferozepur, according to him.
The marriage was arranged following discussions with her parents over the phone, with guests invited for the ceremony, Chand added.
Meanwhile, Moga Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjinder Singh indicated that they have received a complaint from Deepak Kumar.
He reported that the complaint was filed after the groom’s family was unable to reach the bride, as her phone was turned off.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing, he confirmed. (AGENCIES)
