NEW DELHI, Dec 9: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar co-chaired the Fourth India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting today in Manama, alongside his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The discussions focused on exploring new opportunities in the areas of space, education, fintech, and technology.
The EAM also met with Bahraini Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, expressing gratitude for the government’s efforts in supporting the Indian community.
During his opening remarks at the High Joint Commission, the EAM noted that the bilateral relationship has flourished under the leadership of the Bahrain ruler.
“Our ongoing meetings and high-level exchanges are a testament to the robust friendship between our nations, which has deepened over time among our peoples. Our goal today is to enhance these ties, driven by our mutual commitment to peace, security, and the development and prosperity of our societies and the region,” he stated.
“There is significant potential in the sectors of space, education, fintech, science, and technology,” he continued, highlighting the progress made in trade and investment and the desire to maintain this positive momentum.
“India welcomes Bahraini investors to explore opportunities within India,” he added.
Recognizing Bahrain as an important partner in the Gulf region, the EAM expressed appreciation for the care shown towards the Indian community.
“West Asia holds significant strategic importance for India, and recent developments, particularly the conflict in Gaza, are concerning,” he remarked, condemning acts of terrorism and civilian casualties. “We advocate for adherence to international humanitarian law, an immediate ceasefire, and the release of all hostages. India has consistently supported the Palestinian cause, promoting a two-state solution and contributing to the strengthening of Palestinian institutions.”
In posts on X, the EAM mentioned: “I was pleased to meet with DPM Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa of Bahrain today. I value his insights for advancing our cooperation and thanked his government for ensuring the welfare of the Indian community.”
“I was also glad to co-chair the 4th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting with FM Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani in Manama today. We reviewed our bilateral relationship, focusing on trade, investments, healthcare, energy, security, tourism, and people-to-people connections.”
“Additionally, we exchanged views on recent regional developments.”
