NEW DELHI, Jan 12: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to begin a two-day visit to Spain on Monday. This trip aims to assess the overall trajectory of bilateral relations, occurring roughly two and a half months after Spanish President Pedro Sanchez’s visit to India.
During his visit, Jaishankar will engage with Spain’s leadership and discuss various aspects of bilateral relations with his Spanish counterpart, Manuel Albares, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday.
This marks Jaishankar’s inaugural visit to Spain in his capacity as External Affairs Minister.
The MEA noted, “During the visit, the External Affairs Minister will meet with Spanish leadership and hold discussions with Foreign Minister Manuel Albares covering the full spectrum of bilateral ties and regional as well as global matters of shared interest.”
Furthermore, “He will address the 9th Annual Conference of Spanish Ambassadors and engage with the Indian community,” the statement added.
Spanish President Sanchez traveled to India from October 28 to 29, during which both he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a production facility for C-295 military transport aircraft.
In their discussions, Modi and Sanchez agreed to strengthen collaboration in various sectors, including defense and security.
They also committed to enhancing cooperation to achieve the goals of the EU-India Connectivity Partnership and acknowledged the potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) Project to improve connectivity.
