JAMMU, Mar 3: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has acknowledged the contributions of Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo in facilitating the successful conduct of elections for the 18th Lok Sabha in the Union Territory of J&K.

The Chief Secretary of J&K was awarded a ‘Certificate of Exemplary Leadership’ by the Chief Election Commissioner and two other Election Commissioners in recognition of his outstanding service during the 18th Lok Sabha Elections-2024 in J&K.
This commendation from the Commission was in response to the smooth conduct of elections in the UT, which saw a significant 58.11% voter turnout— the highest recorded since 1989. This was over 14% higher than the turnout in the 2019 elections, where the overall percentage was approximately 44% across the districts.
It is important to note that these were the first general elections in J&K since its reorganization in 2019. A total of 8,726,281 voters were eligible to vote in these elections. To facilitate the process, 11,629 polling stations were set up, and 80,724 polling personnel were trained and assigned to the ECI to ensure elections were conducted seamlessly across villages and towns in J&K.
Additionally, for the first time, the administration set up 83 women-manned, 70 youth-manned, 73 PWD-manned, 88 Green Polling Stations, 180 Border Polling Stations, 152 Model Polling Stations, and 46 Unique Polling Stations themed specifically to enhance accessibility and representation for all sections of society.
With a dedicated focus on women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities, these stations were equipped with appropriate facilities to meet their distinct needs, promoting an inclusive environment for active participation in the electoral process.
