Leh, Jan 11: Brig (Retd) B D Mishra, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has pledged to support the Indian men’s ice hockey team, primarily made up of local players, in their effort to participate in the upcoming ninth Asian Winter Games in China. Mishra made this commitment during a meeting with a delegation from the ice hockey team, led by Tsewang Gyaltsan, who visited him at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. A representative from the Raj Bhavan shared this news on Saturday.
Gyaltsan informed the Lt Governor about the sports ministry’s decision not to send the Indian team to the games scheduled from February 7 to 14 in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China, and requested his assistance. He emphasized that the team had been diligently preparing for the competition.
After a discussion with Union Minister of Youth Services and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, the Lt Governor reassured the players—most of whom come from Ladakh and practice the sport at altitudes exceeding 11,000 feet—that every effort would be made to facilitate their participation in China, providing a significant opportunity for the youth of Ladakh.
