New Delhi, Feb 7: The Election Commission stated on Friday that it will provide a detailed written response following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claim that Maharashtra has more registered voters than its entire population.
Immediately after Gandhi made his statements during a press conference, the Election Commission addressed the matter on platform X, saying, “The ECI views political parties as priority stakeholders, and values the insights, suggestions, and queries from them as well as from the voters.”
“The Commission will issue a written response detailing the factual and procedural frameworks consistently applied across the country,” it remarked without directly naming Gandhi or his claims.
Gandhi argued that Maharashtra’s adult population stands at 9.54 crore according to government statistics, while the number of voters in the state is 9.7 crore.
He asserted that the number of voters in Maharashtra exceeds the state’s total population.
Additionally, Gandhi alleged that 39 lakh voters were registered in Maharashtra within five months post the Lok Sabha elections, compared to 32 lakh over the previous five years. (Agencies)
