‘The necessity for peace and non-violence is strongly emphasized’

Jammu, Jan 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha commemorated the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his death anniversary today.
“The principles of truth and non-violence, to which Gandhi remained steadfast, transcend time and location. They hold as much significance now as they did during his lifetime. He has been a guiding light for the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the welfare of every Indian,” he stated.
While attending the Shanti Doot Sammelan, organized by the Gandhi Global Family, Sinha recognized the families of brave soldiers and paid tribute to all leaders, fighters, and martyrs who contributed to India’s independence.

“The world we inhabit today is fraught with conflicts. Various regions face disruption due to persistent aggression. In this context, the call for peace and non-violence is profoundly felt. I am confident that, in such times, Bapu’s ideals will guide humanity towards the right path,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked.
He urged all segments of society to recommit themselves to the ideals and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and unite for the empowerment of the underprivileged, youth, women, and farmers, thus contributing to the vision of a developed India.
“Bapu once declared that the aim of his life was to alleviate suffering from every eye. This should become our guiding principle. The welfare of marginalized communities must be the government’s primary focus, and society’s collective strength should help elevate the poorest to the forefront of development,” the Lieutenant Governor emphasized.
He praised the Gandhi Global Family J&K for its ongoing efforts to promote Gandhian values and disseminating the noble messages of truth, non-violence, and social cohesion.
In response to a request by Dr. S.P. Varma, President of Gandhi Global Family J&K, the Lieutenant Governor confirmed that the month-long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations will be upheld in J&K, consistent with previous practices. He reiterated that humanity can find the right path and achieve goals of peace, harmony, and progress in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as across the nation and the globe, by adhering to Bapu’s ideals.
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor received the Shanti Doot Samman from the Gandhi Global Family.
Padma Shri Awardees, including Dr. S.P. Varma, Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri, and Romalo Ram, alongside distinguished students and youth, were also honored with the ‘Gandhi Doot Samman’ by the Lieutenant Governor.
A two-minute silence was observed to pay respects to the father of the nation and the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for India’s freedom. A pledge was also administered to uphold and promote Gandhi’s vision, ideals, and philosophies.
Among those present were Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu; current and former officials of civil administration, police, and security forces; members of the Gandhi Global Family; relatives of martyrs and freedom fighters; representatives from various social organizations; and a large gathering of students.
Yudhvir Sethi, MLA Jammu East; Arjun Singh Raju, MLA Ramban; and other prominent citizens were also in attendance.
