Udhampur, January 7: Today, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the Passing Out Parade for newly minted Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) at the Police Academy in Udhampur. In his speech, the Lieutenant Governor extended his congratulations to all 61 police officers graduating today, urging them to perform their duties with integrity, commitment, and professionalism.
“As of today, you have been entrusted with a crucial responsibility of ensuring internal security, combating terrorism, upholding the Rule of Law, and creating a safe environment for our citizens. I wish you success in all your endeavors,” he stated.
The Lieutenant Governor paid homage to the courageous personnel of the J&K Police and other security forces who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He acknowledged the J&K Police’s vital role in maintaining the country’s internal security, especially in challenging circumstances, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the nation and the safety of Union Territory residents.
“Our goal is a Jammu and Kashmir that is free from terrorism and fear. We have enhanced coordination among the Police and other security agencies at the operational level and adopted a ‘Whole of Government Approach’ to dismantle the entire terrorist and separatist infrastructure,” said the Lieutenant Governor.
Addressing the new security challenges, the Lieutenant Governor called on the J&K Police to adopt innovative techniques to boost their capabilities in countering disinformation and managing cross-border cyber threats. He noted that modern tools such as Artificial Intelligence have transformed the security landscape, and issues like disinformation and deep fakes pose significant risks.
He urged for the improved application of technological tools to manage law and order, emphasizing the need for constant vigilance and real-time responses to emergent challenges, while also analyzing changes in criminal tactics to stay ahead. “We must transition from reactive policing to a proactive approach,” he emphasized.
“Emerging threats like narco-terrorism, social media exploitation, and disinformation campaigns challenge our internal security and societal harmony. I encourage young police officers to employ new ideas and tools to lead the fight against narco-terrorism, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and counter-radicalization,” added the Lieutenant Governor.
He underscored the importance of adding another column of prosecution to their achievements, ensuring that every investigation reaches its logical conclusion. “Effective policing goes beyond just neutralizing terrorists; it involves dismantling divisive elements as well as those who support terrorism and separatism,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also praised the J&K Police for its civil action initiatives.
