Chandigarh, Feb 15: Union Health Minister J P Nadda emphasized the government’s commitment to providing top-tier medical services to every Indian, highlighting significant advances made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration. Speaking at the launch of the AIIMS Oncology Conclave 2025 at the National Cancer Institute in Jhajjar, he noted that in the past, individuals often sold their homes or land to afford critical treatments such as cancer care.
With initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Bharat, along with the availability of affordable cancer medications, access to necessary treatment has significantly improved for all patients, he stated.
Nadda remarked, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the dedication of our doctors and scientists, we have made considerable progress toward the goal of providing quality medical facilities to every Indian.”
Prior to the event, he inaugurated the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, the Radio Nucleotide Therapy Ward, and a Free Generic Dispensary at the institute, while also reviewing its available facilities.
He announced plans for the Union government to establish cancer day-care centers in 200 districts, with the aim to reach every district over the next three years.
“Until 1998, there was just one AIIMS in the country. Under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, 16 additional AIIMS were created, increasing to 22 under Prime Minister Modi’s government,” he added.
Nadda expressed that research and innovation within the healthcare sector are now powered by humanitarian values. The government is developing policies focused on public interests, and the relentless efforts of doctors, paramedics, and scientists ensure that patients no longer need to travel abroad for cancer treatment.
He also noted that in just six years, AIIMS Jhajjar has established itself as a world-class healthcare facility, setting new standards for medical excellence.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including BJP national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar, AIIMS Director Dr. N Srinivasan, Dean Academic Dr. K K Verma, Additional Secretary of the Health Ministry Jaideep Mishra, along with cancer specialists, scientists, and scholars from across the nation.
