Jammu, January 23: Farooq Abdullah, the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, delighted devotees on Thursday by performing a ‘bhajan’ dedicated to Mata Shera Wali. A video of his rendition has rapidly gained popularity on social media.
In his remarks, Abdullah also touched on the current controversy surrounding the construction of a ropeway in Katra, urging those managing the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine to refrain from decisions that might inconvenience the local populace.
“Tune mujhe bulaya Sherawaliye, main aaya main aaya Sherawaliye,” Abdullah sang while joining a singer and children during a ‘bhajan’ event at an ashram in Katra. The video of his performance quickly spread online.
During the event, Abdullah expressed his solidarity with the Katra community in their opposition to the ropeway project.
He stated, “Those overseeing the shrine’s operations should avoid actions that jeopardize the interests of local residents or create difficulties for them.”
He criticized the governing board for proceeding with the ropeway construction without considering the city’s welfare. “You displayed bravery and fought valiantly to halt it. They have understood that true power rests with the people, not the government,” he asserted.
Abdullah highlighted that the citizens hold the authority to support or dismantle governments, and asserted that the authorities are now engaging with them to determine the appropriate location for the ropeway’s construction.
He remarked, “The residents of these hills come here to make a living under the blessings of Mata. However, they have been overlooked. They believe they are all-important, but in reality, they are not. When divine power prevails, everything else diminishes. Just observe the happenings in California.”
Abdullah emphasized that the fundamental principles of all religions are identical and criticized how individuals often exploit religion for personal gain.
