Srinagar, Jan 14: A tragic head-on collision between two vehicles in the Shilikchey area of Kargil district left five people dead and critically injured two others on Tuesday, officials reported.
According to the authorities, the crash involved a Scorpio (UP79A/1150) and a tipper (JK02AD/5118), which both fell into a deep gorge following the collision. A rescue operation was promptly initiated.
“The victims were quickly transported to the hospital, where five were pronounced dead. The condition of the remaining two is critical,” the official stated. Among the deceased, three were locals while two were non-locals.
The local victims have been identified as Mohd Hassan, son of Mohd Hussain from Stakpa; Liyaqat Ali, son of A.K. Raza from Choskore; and Mohd Ibrahim, son of Haji Mohd from Badgam, Kargil.
The identities of the non-local victims are still being confirmed. Authorities have registered a case and are conducting an investigation. (KNO)
