Leh, December 11: The concluding report on identifying regions adjacent to the Actual Line of Control (ALC) in Ladakh for the purpose of providing reservations to local residents was presented to Lt Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the Raj Bhawan on Wednesday.
Justice (Retd) Bansi Lal Bhat, the Chairman of the Reservation Commission for ALC in Ladakh and former judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh, met with the Lt Governor in Delhi on Tuesday to submit the final report, the spokesperson noted.
According to the official, the primary aim of the single-member commission was to assess whether or not to offer reservations to residents of areas adjacent to the ALC for recruitment to various administrative posts under the jurisdiction of Ladakh as per the J&K Reservation Act, 2004. This initiative is aimed at ensuring administrative efficiency and maintaining minimum standards for job recruitment.
Additionally, the commission sought to establish the criteria for defining any territory in Ladakh as adjoining the ALC, and to utilize these criteria for evaluating the inclusion of specific villages, the spokesperson added.
During the meeting, Justice (Retd) Bhat briefed the Lt Governor on the commission’s findings, with Brig (Retd) Mishra praising him for his dedication and thoroughness in completing the report within the designated timeline. (Agencies)
