Jammu, Jan 7: On Tuesday, law enforcement officials apprehended five suspected drug traffickers along with a significant quantity of heroin in the Udhampur, Kathua, and Jammu districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police reported.
Nikhil Sharma, also known as Nipun, and Charanjeet Singh, referred to as Monu, both identified as wanted drug dealers, were seized after 6.1 grams of heroin was found in their private vehicle during routine checks on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Rehambal, according to a police spokesperson.
Another suspect, Rajrupinder Singh, was taken into custody when 7.38 grams of heroin was discovered near Tikri in Udhampur. He was apprehended while walking from the Katra direction, where he was intercepted and searched by police officers, as per the spokesman.
In addition, a third individual, Darshan Singh, was arrested in Galak village, located in the Billawar tehsil of Kathua district, after 1.7 grams of heroin was found on him.
Lastly, Naresh Kumar, known as Kutti, was detained near the border police post in Chakroi, Suchetgarh area of Jammu district, with 3.08 grams of heroin in his possession.
Four separate cases have been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against all five accused, and investigations are ongoing, according to the spokesman.
