PESHAWAR, Feb 2: Five individuals, including four paramilitary personnel, were killed when militants ambushed their vehicle in the troubled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Sunday, according to police reports.
The ambush occurred in the Dera Ismail Khan district, which borders South Waziristan.
Police stated that the Karizat Levies personnel were on their way to retrieve a stolen truck in the Daraban Tehsil of the district, accompanied by a civilian driver, when they came under attack.
The assault resulted in the deaths of four Levies personnel and one civilian.
Security forces have been conducting extensive anti-terrorism operations throughout the country to combat the rise of terrorism in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan.
On Saturday, law enforcement agencies eliminated 23 terrorists during various operations in Balochistan.
These operations are part of a continued effort to address the increase in violent occurrences since the Taliban regained control in Afghanistan in 2021, particularly affecting the bordering provinces of KP and Balochistan.
The frequency of terror attacks has escalated after the banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan violated a tenuous ceasefire with the government. (PTI)
