NEW DELHI, Dec 6: The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2024 will be awarded to former Chilean president and distinguished advocate for human rights, Michelle Bachelet. The announcement was made by the international jury for the award, chaired by former National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon.
“President Michelle Bachelet is recognized globally as a leading champion for human rights, peace, and equality. In her various roles, including being the founding director of UN Women, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and President of Chile, she has consistently advocated for gender equality and the rights of vulnerable communities both domestically and internationally,” stated the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.
“Her bravery and commitment to advocating for peace and the rights of marginalized individuals continue to motivate people around the globe,” the statement emphasized.
