JAMMU, Dec 17: Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan, a former two-time Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh and retired DIG, tragically passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88.
His last moments were spent at his residence in Bathandi, Jammu.
Khan was born on December 11, 1936, in Simloo village of Batalik, located in the Kargil district of Ladakh. He retired as a Deputy Inspector General from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, subsequently emerging as a prominent political figure in Ladakh. Khan was elected to the 13th and 15th Lok Sabha, representing Ladakh in 1999 and 2009, respectively.
In the 1999 elections, he contested on a National Conference ticket, while in 2009, he ran as an independent candidate. He is fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication and contributions towards the development of Ladakh.
Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan is survived by his wife, a son (the former Chief Executive Councilor of LAHDC Kargil and current Councilor, Feroz Ahmed Khan), and two daughters.
