NEW DELHI, Dec 5: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Thursday that four contractors have been held accountable for the shortcomings identified in the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and that stringent action will follow.
In response to the concerns raised, experts from IIT Kharagpur and Gandhinagar conducted an inspection of the expressway, confirming the presence of construction deficiencies.
“Notices have been dispatched to the four contractors, and we will place them on a blacklist. We will ensure severe repercussions. Furthermore, relevant officials will also face action,” the transport minister stated during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha.
“Following the identification of deficiencies, we engaged experts from IIT Kharagpur and IIT Gandhinagar. The preliminary findings indicate multiple issues in the construction,” Gadkari added.
He also highlighted that the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is the longest expressway in the country and was constructed in record time.
“The expressway, completed at a cost of Rs 1 lakh crore, has successfully shortened the distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 200 km. Travel time between the two cities has now decreased to 12 hours,” he noted. (Agencies)
