JAMMU, Feb 18: Today, a Full Court reference took place in the Chief Justice’s courtroom at the Jammu Wing of the High Court to mourn the loss of Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta, former Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and former Chief Justice of the High Courts of Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. He passed away on February 15, 2025, at the age of 77, following a brief illness in Delhi.
During this solemn occasion, the Senior Additional Advocate General and the President of the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, reflected on Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta’s significant contributions as a Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Senior Additional Advocate General, representing Government Advocates, expressed condolences for Justice Gupta’s passing and offered prayers for his eternal peace and strength for the bereaved family. Similarly, the President of the J&K High Court Bar Association extended condolences on behalf of the Bar executives and fellow members, praying for the peace of his departed soul.
Justice Tashi Rabstan, the Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, shared his remembrance of Justice Gupta’s contributions and character during his address. He acknowledged Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta’s unwavering dedication to the law, tireless work ethic, and commitment to justice, all of which have made a lasting impact on our community.
“Justice Gupta was recognized for his wisdom, fairness, and integrity as a Judge, upholding the highest standards of the judiciary. His work not only established legal precedents but also inspired those around him to serve with dedication and honor,” noted the Chief Justice.
On behalf of himself and the other Judges of the High Court, the Chief Justice prayed for the eternal peace of Justice Gupta and for strength for the bereaved family to endure this profound loss.
Judges from the Srinagar Bench participated in the Full Court Reference proceedings virtually. The proceedings concluded with a two-minute silence observed in honor of the departed soul, and court activities were suspended for the remainder of the day.
