LOS ANGELES, Dec 30: Gal Gadot, renowned for her role as “Wonder Woman,” has disclosed that she required emergency surgery due to a “massive blood clot” in her brain while she was eight months pregnant.
The 39-year-old actress welcomed her fourth child, daughter Ori, with her husband, entrepreneur Jaron Varsano, in early March.
In an Instagram post, Gadot shared her experience with a medical emergency known as cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), reflecting on a year filled with significant challenges and introspection.
“I’ve grappled with how to share this deeply personal story. In February, during my eighth month of pregnancy, I was diagnosed with a massive blood clot in my brain. I had been suffering from severe headaches that kept me bedridden until an MRI unveiled the frightening reality,” she explained.
“We rushed to the hospital, and within hours, I underwent emergency surgery. My daughter Ori was born amid that uncertainty and fear, and her name, which means ‘my light,’ was chosen deliberately,” she added.
Throughout her health ordeal, Gadot reflected on the fragility of life.
“It was a powerful reminder of how swiftly circumstances can change. During such a tough year, all I wanted was to hold on to life and be present,” she noted.
In her post, she expressed gratitude to the healthcare team at the hospital where Ori was born, stating she is “fully healed and filled with appreciation for the life I’ve regained.”
“This journey has imparted invaluable lessons. It’s crucial to heed our bodies and trust their signals. Pain, discomfort, and even subtle changes can signify deeper issues, and being attuned to our health can be life-saving,” she advised.
The actress emphasized the importance of awareness.
“I was unaware that 3 in 100,000 pregnant women over 30 are diagnosed with CVT (developing a blood clot in the brain). Early detection is vital as it is treatable.”
“While it is a rare condition, awareness is the first step toward addressing it. My intention in sharing this experience is not to instill fear but to empower. If my story encourages even one person to take charge of their health, then it has served its purpose,” she concluded.
