JAIPUR, Jan 17: Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, on Friday criticized both the Centre and the Punjab Government for their indifference towards farmer leader Jagdeep Singh Dallewal, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike.
The Congress leader highlighted that this attitude has led to 111 other farmers also embarking on a hunger strike to voice their concerns to the Government.
“It has now been 51 days since farmer leader Shri Jagjit Singh Dallewal began his hunger strike. His health continues to decline. Throughout these 51 days, both the Central and Punjab governments have displayed utter insensitivity,” Gehlot stated in a press release.
Dallewal has been protesting at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana since November 26 last year, advocating for various farmer demands, including a legal assurance for minimum support prices on crops.
Gehlot expressed that the Government only heeds their issues after a tragic toll of 700 farmers’ lives during protests against the three controversial agricultural laws.
“It is perplexing why such recurring situations arise and why the government refrains from engaging with the farmers’ delegation to find resolutions,” he remarked. (PTI)
