JAMMU, Feb 8: To enhance the academic quality of its MBBS students, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has launched a new initiative by organizing an educational tour to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh. This tour, which occurred from February 3 to February 6, represents a significant transition from conventional leisure trips to academic journeys designed to provide students with enriching learning experiences.
The tour was formally inaugurated by Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu. A notable alumnus of PGIMER Chandigarh, Dr. Gupta’s involvement in coordinating the visit highlights his dedication to fostering academic growth and encouraging research-oriented education among students.
Dr. Rachna Sabharwal, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at GMC Jammu, acted as the nodal officer for the initiative and accompanied the students. Renowned for her academic prowess and specialization in medical biochemistry, Dr. Sabharwal played a crucial role in the tour’s success and has been a mentor to numerous GMC Jammu students, overseeing various academic initiatives.
During the visit, students had the distinct opportunity to tour PGIMER’s cutting-edge research labs and engage with esteemed medical professionals, acquiring valuable knowledge about the latest breakthroughs in medical research and clinical practices. This educational excursion exemplifies GMC Jammu’s commitment to exposing its students to leading medical institutions and preparing them for their future in healthcare.
The tour was organized under the Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) and is part of GMC Jammu’s broader strategy to strengthen collaboration with premier medical institutions across India.
